Black and Decker has been a serious market contender in the power tools industry. Over the last few years, the company has released all kinds of products for DIYers and professionals who wish to attain a specific level of perfection in their individual projects such as the LDX120PK Cordless Drill and the LCS1020 Chainsaw, just to name a few.
With the release of the Black and Decker BDEJS600C jigsaw, the company aimed to woo the hearts of woodworkers on the internet, but a lot of things went off course. Black and Decker BDEJS600C model falls under the category of budget jigsaw – it is cheap, like $30 cheap! There are better jigsaw substitutes, and frankly speaking, the company could have implemented a better strategy of showing professionalism over cheap quality build.
That being said, the Black and Decker variable speed jigsaw works as advertised. The first time Black and Decker released BDEJS600C series, the introductory price was set at $50. People liked it, and they were probably made to believe that the power tool is worth the ticket price. However, as it turns out, the company lowered the price to at 50% off the original. Is it the sweet smell of desperation that I smell right now?

Setbacks of Having Black and Decker BDEJS600C Electric 20 V Jigsaw?

I normally don’t open a power tool review with discouraging remarks, but it is important for me to highlight some of the negatives about this product. It is an effort to help you realize that this ain’t the only power tool worth buying out there.
We have reviewed several better jig saws at Powertoolbuzz such as Bosch JS470E, Dewalt DCS331M1 or the Makita 4329K jigsaw for instance.
Why Buy Black and Decker BDEJS600C Jigsaw?
The way I see and recommend it as a seasoned woodworker, is there are only two reasons. First of all, this is an affordable jigsaw. You probably can’t get a lower price, until and unless you are shopping in the used products category.
Secondly, this is more of an ideal jigsaw for entry level enthusiasts. Think of it as a learner’s tool, until you hone your skills – and you are ready to take on professional woodworking contracts with the help of a high profile jigsaw. In between that phase and right now, this Black and Decker jigsaw could be your best bet at getting your toes wet in the industry – and that too without blowing a lot of cash.
Floor Lamination Installation:
I found the Black and Decker BDEJS600C jigsaw to be ideal during basic level projects. For instance, I installed a laminated floor without any issues or whatsoever. Just to give you an idea, I was dealing with over 400 Sq. Ft. material, and for some reason, I decided to use this Black and Decker jigsaw for the job. The “perception” factor concerning any power tool’s performance comes in when you are skilled. If you are an amateur at best, you probably won’t be able to get as much result out of your of B&D jigsaw as I did.
Unboxing and First Impressions:
Black and Decker BDEJS600C jigsaw comes in a fairly small box. You can see that they have labeled it with a close up shot of the jigsaw. There is “2” and “30” written at the bottom right side. These figures represent 2 years official B&D limited warranty, and 30-day money back guarantee.
I believe that the latter option is a ‘safe word’ for those users who want a refund or switch to a better performing Black and Decker product. The company will take care of your request regardless.

Straight out of the box, the jigsaw is followed up by a nicely coiled cord. As you whiff in the sweet aroma of a brand new product that has just been unboxed, this Black and Decker BDEJS600C jigsaw greets you with an instructions manual and 5 Amps of relentless power. The jigsaw feels heavy despite of the fact that it’s total weight falls somewhere around 5 Lbs., or less.
I reckon that most of the weight of this Black and Decker jigsaw is attributed to the solid shoe at the base. If you want to try the bevel angle capacity, you can tilt this jigsaw on either sides. I had no issues with 22.5 degree and the standard 45 degree bevel positions. Just make sure that the show is sitting in position when you lean the housing assembly to the left or right side at any desired angle.

The Black and Decker BDEJS600C corded electric jigsaw also has a nice line of sight. You can see the cut and the direction you are supposed to go, except for the fact that the jigsaw appears to have a mind of its own!
Straight down on one side, there is a small dial with numbers: 1,2,3 and 4 imprinted on it. There are also “S” shaped lines above each number. Black and Decker not only implemented an orbital action system, but also curve control feature. The latter is kind of new, but the ‘S’ symbol stands for curve cuts.

The best option is to set the dial at 1 and then assess the resistance of the work piece material. Thinner and non-dense pieces are relatively easy to cut. Aluminum and plastic sheets are also not that hard to cut through. Black and Decker BDEJS600C jig saw will definitely give you a hard time when cutting metal sheets.
Tool Less Blade Installation:

Yes, that is true. You can easily install the stock Black and Decker BDEJS600C jigsaw blade, or a replacement without the need of a hex key etc. Make sure that at the time of installation, the blade’s toothed side is facing away from the jigsaw body.
My only gripe at this point is that the company should have made the jigsaw compatible with at least 3 different styles of blades. The laminate and speed blade would have been a welcome addition to the collection, but oh well, never mind…
Black and Decker Jigsaw Exhaust: Did you notice the small circular port at the back side of the jigsaw? You will find it under the area where the power cord comes out of the jigsaw’s body. This is an exhaust port for helping against sawdust pileup.
The exhaust port does not work alone; it needs the assistance of a shop vac or some other suction device. If you can find the right sized attachment, you can get rid of wood dust while making the cuts in real time.
Power Vs. Expectation: As stated earlier, Black and Decker BDEJS600C jigsaw has a solid 5 Amp motor. The average SPM is 3,000. It is not stable; B&D did not install any speed stability devices or anything else of that matter. This means that the power tool is suitable for pallets, small to medium sized work pieces and thin sheets.
Variable speed is a slightly different thing. You can adjust the speed according to the numbers mentioned on the speed dial. I already wrote about that in the above paragraphs. There are no speed locks on base levels, except for the ‘4’ position on the dial. You will have to keep an eye out on the dial’s position throughout the cut.
